[this just in from Kimball]
As Americans, our approach to political issues is the same as our
approach to food and medicine. We want a quick, easy fix which we
don't have to think about.
Hungry ? Pull into some fast food place. No nutrition, no taste and
probably not good for you but it is fast, cheap and easy.
Not feeling well ? Take these pills. Don't worry about the side affects
or the actual causes of your pains.
When it comes to politics, we want the same quick fixes.
Build a wall. Deport all those aliens. Drop bombs on them and so on.
Just as we ignore nutrition when we eat fast food and we ignore
side affects when we take pills, we don't bother with facts when
we make decisions nor do we consider the side affects.
Facts are too difficult to discover when one is inundated, daily, with
misinformation and disinformation. Just like the ads for fast food
or drugs, we are constantly hearing sound bites and political ads
from people with a vested interest in "their product".
So it goes.
