This week on Moyers & Company Bill Moyers chose to devote an hour to our 'understanding of the warrior. 'Feh! It's time to stop pandering to the belated moral awakening of killers (and the buying their books so they can profit from the killing) and focus more on our 'understanding of those who chose not to kill.' It would be more profitable to society if we began to focus on, study about, understand those individuals who take the moral path and chose to not pick up the gun.
Marlantes' excited recollections of 'the horrors' of war come off more like fond memories of adrenaline filled moments of mystical excitement. This is just the stuff that feeds tomorrow's warriors with hopes of similar ecstasy.
Enough, Moyers. You may or may not still believe in the 'war on terror' as a logical path to peace [see Moyers' Winning the War on Terror] but you would help us all if you didn't give a more public voice to those who chose the wrong path, however much they now regret their decisions.
