The failure of the Obama administration to take action against the Malheur, Oregon armed terrorists will encourage other extremist groups (religious,left/right wing, and others) to ignore the law and take matters into their own hands defying legal authorities.
As with past movements there is likely to be a radical fringe that emerges declaring that violence in the name of their cause is justified. We will again be pressed for solutions at the rear end of problems; an all-to-typical American response.
This particular land-use dispute has long historical roots, but few creative, non-violent resources have been applied to resolve the problem.
What to do? As with any terrorist action:
- Blockade the armed terrorists: Allow only minimal food and water to enter the occupied sites, supervised by, perhaps, the CDC to see that the people don’t starve. Allow only a minimal amount of electricity. Cut off phone and internet service.
- Employ economic sanctions: Freeze bank accounts and cancel credit cards of those involved.
- Begin negotiations over closed communication links.
Inaction is not the answer.
