The planning for it has been hush hush. The star lineup is secret. The only thing about it that is in the open is the exploitation.
I kid you not. NBC has already launched the first in its new series of victim exploitation programming. NBC said, "'Stars Earn Stripes' hopes to inspire other employers throughout the country to make similar commitments to our returning heroes to show audiences just how incredible these heroes' missions really are." This will be accomplished by having folks such as Eve Torres (whose military experience seems to consist of a stint as National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers Spirit Dance Team) participate in "missions reminiscent of counterinsurgencies that have taken place all over the world," replete with "real bullets" and "real danger.". What a load of crap. This exploitation of those who give their all is a new low for American media.
What next? The Ground Zero Challenge! Contestants will be locked in small, smoke filled spaces atop lofty structures and have to find their way down to safety amidst explosions and severe shaking before all hell breaks loose. Cash prizes will be sent to widows and orphans of the 9/11 tragedy.
It's hard to blame NBC. After all, if they write it people will watch. Or will they?
