It has begun. And it will shut out more fitting news. Horrific images of the 9/11 tragedy are beginning to occupy more and more space in the media. Jihadists will revel in the exposure. Posing as 'memorial' these images do little more than reignite sadness, fear, and anger. The attraction is real, much like picking at a sore. Print media will sell more issues, TV shows will bring in more ad revenue, and the interworld will hum with maudlin tales and conspiracy drivel.
Why not replace each image and pandering story with illuminations of the local and global non-violent peace movements? This would be a more fitting tribute to those we lost and it would stop the free publicity we give to terrorists. Have you read about The Parents Circle, ICSSI, Peaceful Tomorrows? Does your favorite news media carry headlines and stories about the organizations and individuals who work tirelessly to move the world in non-violent ways?
Does your child's school teach about them? Why not? Maybe a letter to the editor and the school board will help.
